For Delivery to Store Direct (DSD)

Suppliers delivering DSD will be responsible for replenishment and distribution based upon the needs of the stores. Contact store manager or inventory control clerks for further instructions.

Shipping Case Requirements for Delivery to all Facilities

The purpose of this section is to ensure consistency in the display of logo, product, identity, count/size, signature and UPC for all the corrugated cases, trays and bales.

All cases must be of adequate strength and proper size relative to the consumer package. Loosefitting product can be easily scuffed or otherwise damaged rendering it unsalable.

If packed in glass, it is recommended that case be marked "glass – handle with care".

All case printing must be a minimum of one (1) side panel and, if possible, one (1) end panel.

All legally required markings must be placed on cases and trays.

PACK AND SIZE COPY

  • Standard Shipping Cases:

    Placement - On the upper left corner of the side and, if possible, one end panel, ½" (1.25 cm) from the top and left edges.
    Print - Only count and weight of contents in ounces (or metric equivalent), separated by a slash, i.e., 24/29oz.

    In common block, upright, capital letters (recommend Universe or Helvetica bold) type style: 1" (2.5 cm) high numerals and ½" (1.25 cm) high "oz." (or metric equivalent).


  • Tray Pack Shipping Cases:

    Placement - To be ½" (1.25 cm) in from the top and left edge on the side panel and, if possible, one end panel.
    Print - To be listed in quantity and weight as specified on standard cases, of a size consistent with the tray depth centered top to bottom to allow a maximum of ¼" (63 mm) up from the bottom score and down from the top edge of the tray.

LOGO DISPLAY – (Preferred, but not required)

  • Standard Shipping Cases:

    Placement - To be centered left to right ½" (1.25 cm) down from the top on both side and end panels. If insufficient room, lower both logo and commodity copy elements accordingly.
    Print - To be 45% of the panel depth from the top edge to the center of the logo. Reproduction quality prints of the logo can be secured from O.N.E.


  • Tray Pack Shipping Cases:

    Placement - To be located ½" (1.25 cm) to the right of the pack information on the sides and one end panel.
    Print - Centered top to bottom of a size consistent with the tray depth to allow a minimum of ¼" (63 mm) up from the bottom score and down from the top edge of the tray.

VARIETAL COPY

  • Standard Shipping Cases:

    Placement - Centered left to right on the side panel and, if possible, one end panel, ½" (1.25 cm)from bottom edge.
    Print - 1" (2.5 cm) high bold type.
  • Tray Pack Shipping Cases:

    Placement - To be ½" (1.25 cm) to the right of the logo, on each the side panel and, if possible, one end panel.
    Print - Centered top to bottom on panel, ideally in one line, to be of a size consistent with the tray depth, allowing a minimum of ¼" (63 mm) up from the bottom score and down from the top edge of the tray.

DISTRIBUTOR STATEMENT – (Preferred, but not required)

No abbreviations other than the words "Dist." and "Inc." are authorized.

  • Standard Shipping Cases:

    Placement - One display on top flap ½" (1.25 cm) in from the left and ½" (1.25 cm) up from the bottom edges. Shall be oriented so that it reads correctly when viewed from the side panel with which it is associated.
    Print - Type size shall be 3/8" (1 cm) high; use one of the authorized formats:

  • All Shipping Cases and Tray Packs:

    Placement - May be placed no closer than ¾" (2 cm) from any edge.
    Print - Preference would be one end and one side, lower right. Second preference would be at least one side, lower right.

UPC NUMBERS

  • Standard Shipping Cases:

    Placement - To be ½" (1.25 cm) in from the right and ½" (1.25 cm) down from the top edge of the side panel and, if possible, one end panel.
    Print - size shall be ½" (1.25 cm) high for the manufacturer’s code and 1" (2.50 cm) high for the product code. The two codes shall be separated by a hyphen and aligned at the top.


  • Tray Pack Shipping Cases:

    Placement - To be ½" (1.25 cm) in from the right edge on a side and, if possible, one end panel.
    Print - Type to be ¼" (63 mm) for the manufacturer’s code and ½" (1.25 cm) for the product code, the two separated by a hyphen and aligned at the top.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

  • All Shipping Cases and Tray Packs:

    Placement - Ideal placement is just under "Best Before".
    Print - Barring room on the side and end panels, the country of origin may be placed on the top just below the distributor clause.

PALLET PATTERN

  • All Shipping Cases and Tray Packs:

    Placement - Top flap – left-hand corner.

RECYCLE SYMBOL

  • All Shipping Cases and Tray Packs:

    Placement - Top flap – right hand corner.

CIFA

  • All Shipping Cases and Tray Packs:

    Placement - The registration number of the establishment in Canada in which the product was packed.

COLORS

  • All Shipping Cases and Tray Packs:

    Placement - Safeway, Vons, Dominick’s, Remarkable, Genuardi’s, and Safeway SELECT product cases shall be printed in black ink.

ADDITIONAL COPY

Only the following additional copy may be used:

Copy Options:

Any other additional copy required for proper product storage or handling must be submitted to Safeway for approval prior to printing.

    Placement - centered on top flap, ½" (1.25 cm) from top edge.
    Print - Type 1" (2.50 cm) high.


  • Tray Pack Shipping Cases:

    Placement - To be directed on a product-by-product basis.

Shipping Bales

Specific items will be treated with the concept of "approaching" the corrugated case look, recognizing that particularly on the "front" and "back" panels, elements will be considerably larger than corrugated specifications, to allow a maximum visibility and impact. Information may be printed on a pressure sensitive label and applied to the bale. Information required is the same as for corrugated cases.

NOTICE: Exceptions and deviations from these specifications should not be executed without prior expressed approval.
